New Staples Store Due in Ankeny
Staples Inc. is planning a store relocation, which will take the store from its current location at 906 E. First Street to a new building. It will be built at the 1.5-acre outlot located at 2407 S.E. Delaware Avenue. This will allow the company to better serve its Ankeny customers with a larger store at a better location. The new store will cover 18,000 square feet and its construction is expected to begin this spring.
The outlot in question is currently owned by Menard Inc., and lies northwest of the company’s store at 2505 S.E. Delaware Avenue. The land currently sits vacant, although it has been valued at $659,400 by the Polk County assessor. While Staples has not purchased this land yet, Ankeny’s Planning and Zoning Commission has already approved the site plan for the new Staples building, leaving no doubt that this purchase is impending.
The new Staples store is the latest project in development for S.E. Delaware Avenue. The Tasty Tacos Inc. restaurant opened an eatery there last year and more businesses can be expected to locate to this prime Ankeny location in the days to come.
